It takes me about an hour to get from work to Walt’s. I have time to reflect as I am driving. He and I have been friends for about 17 years. What is a 17 year friendship worth? I mean I have other friends. I could just point my car towards my house, and not answer my phone, email, or IM’s. Just cut him lose, and I wouldn’t have to finish this bathroom. I’d never have to see him , or the bathroom again. Then I remembered Jillian was making lasagna and some sort of Mississippi chunk brownies.
I have noticed a theme with Jillian’s cooking. When her and Walt met she was a vegetarian. This Lasagna was basically meat and cheese with a few noodles. “Triple Meat Lasagna” , I think she called it. While we were eating dinner, Jillian mentioned that on Saturday they were going to her parents house for her Birthday, and that I was invited. I wish I had a picture of the look of disdain on Walt’s face when she asked me. I spared him, and politely said I had plans.
I personally feel like Walt hit the jackpot with Jillian. After dinner she looked at me and said “would you like a hot brownie now and then one after they cool”. She clearly “gets it”. Why wouldn’t you have a hot brownie and then a cool brownie?
Tonight was a boring work night. We fixed a few things, and grouted all the tile.
The pictures aren’t that great because there was still some haze on the wall.
Walt doesn’t throw out too many compliments. He said that it looked “hotel nice”. Which, coming from anyone else would have been an insult. But from him, it was high praise.
The brownies were awesome.
Jillian has this cool cookbook stand thingy. It was open to the page with the recipe for the chocolate chip cookies that she made. As I was leaving I couldn’t help but notice the recipe just to the right that reads, “Big Chocolate Chip Cookies'”. The entire drive home I just wondered why anyone would make regular chocolate chip cookies when they had a recipe for BIG chocolate chip cookies.
